PAPER PATTERNS DO NOT INCLUDE SEAM ALLOWANCES ; ADD 1/2 CM BEFORE CUTTING YOUR FABRICS (except for some appliqué hearts)

Place templates on the wrong side of your fabric.
Trace around the template, with a pencil or a specific textile marker.
Do not forget the 1/2 cm seam allowance.
Cut all pieces indicated on the pattern.

3. ASSEMBLING ALL PIECES TOGETHER

Place two fabrics (for example piece 1 and 2) with right sides together.
Pin the two fabrics, matching the seam lines

Start sewing the two fabric together, following your drawing line .
Use a small running stitch.
End with backstitching.
(stitching may be done by hand or with a sewing machine).

Stitch the lace on the bottom of the roof
Sew it to the central panel, then sew the birdhouse bottom.

4.TRADITIONAL APPLIQUE – Flowers & circles

Cut flower and circle templates
Place template on the right side of the fabric.
Trace around the template.
Cut out each fabric piece adding 1/2 cm wide seam allowance.

3. Placing the pieces
Place the pattern under the background fabric.
Lightly trace all designs ( embroideries, hearts, cercles, flowers).
If the fabric is too dark, use a light box or tape the diagrama to a window to better see all drawings.
Use your pattern to position the fabric pieces.
Pin your fabric pieces.

Now turn the seam allowance under the fabric piece.
Use an applique stitch or blind stitch using a thread in a color close to the fabric one.
Start with a knot that will be hidden under the applique fabric.
Work on right to left if you are right-handed.
Let your needle travel under the background fabric, then catch the edge of your applique fabric.

 5. HEART APPLIQUE

Cut heart templates
Place template on the right side of the fabric.
Trace around the template.
Cut out each fabric piece without seam allowance.
Place pieces on the top.
Sew each heart using buttonhole stitch.

This embroidery stitch will be done from left to right.
Bring the thread out on the lower line (A), insert the needle in position in the upper line and take a straight downward stitch (B), keeping the working thread under the point of the needle. Pull up the stitch to form a loop (C and repeat (D and E).

6.PREPARING TO QUILT

Now, you are ready to start the quilting.
1– Assemble the quilt « sandwich » which consists of the backing, the batting and your quilt top.
Spread the backing, wrong side up, then spread the batting over the backing. Center the quilt top over these two pieces.

Baste all three pieces together. Using one thread of the special embroidery cotton, start to quilt, using small, even stitches through all layers.
Hide beginning and endings knots by pulling them gently through the quilt top into the batting.

7. EMBROIDERIES

Embroideries are realized with 1 thread of the special embroidery cotton threads, taking all 3 fabrics and batting together.

Back stitch
Bring the needle out at 1, insert at 2, bring out again at 3. Continue in 4 making even stitches forming a continuous line

8. QUILT FINISHING

Stitch all buttons
Design birdhouse borders on the fantasy fabric wrong side, leaving ½ seam allowance.
Place it, right side on right side.
Turn ½ seam allowances of all borders.
Sew all borders using small invisible stitches.
Stitch the grey lace, folded in two.
