Katie Pasquini has been kind enough to explain her way of painting and making a « painted quilt » and we are very honoured and happy to pass you the information here by the way she sent it to us. Sewn Europe would like to thank Katie for her kindness and taking the time to send us also the corresponding pictures.
“I love the fun things that happen when painting with watercolors, the unexpected blendings and bleedings of colors are very exciting"

I first make water color marks on a large sheet of watercolor paper. In this example I used only straight lines parallel to the edges. When I am finished with the large painting I crop the whole thing to one small section that has a strong composition.
I then make a drawing by placing a piece of matt acetate over the watercolor and draw the edges of the marks and the color changes.

This drawing is then enlarged to the desired size of the quilt and the paper enlargement is spray glued to poster board to create the templates.
I then choose fabrics that match the colors and blending in the painting and create the quilt.
I turn all of my edges, free motion zig-zag them to my Sulky totally stable foundationthat you can find in a shop nearby or order it by Internet.
Then I tear away the foundation, layer with batting and a backing and machine quilt the surface.
